Firebaugh Farmer and NFL Star Josh Allen Renews Wonderful Pistachios Deal, Brings Back Central Valley Scholarship For Students

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, a Firebaugh native who grew up in a fourth-generation Central Valley farming family, is back for a second season as the face of Wonderful Pistachios, and he’s bringing his hometown scholarship program along with him.

The Wonderful Company announced the renewal on Aug. 26, timing it to the start of football season. The centerpiece is a run of limited-edition packaging: Allen’s image will appear on the brand’s flagship 16-ounce Roasted & Salted In-Shell Pistachios, available while supplies last at select retailers including Wegmans, Tops and Amazon, as well as at the Bills’ Highmark Stadium in Buffalo throughout the season. Shoppers will also see him on displays and point-of-sale materials in grocery stores nationwide.

An agricultural angle you don’t usually see in a sports endorsement

What sets this partnership apart is the direct farm-to-shelf connection. Allen isn’t just lending his name to a snack, his family’s pistachio orchards actually help supply the company. Wonderful Pistachios are grown and processed in California’s Central Valley, the same region where Allen was born and raised.

Diana Salsa, vice president of marketing for Wonderful Pistachios, pointed to that authenticity, noting that plenty of athletes put their faces on products, but few can say their own family grows what’s inside the bag. She described Allen as the brand’s “Most Valuable Partner.”

Allen has framed the collaboration in similar terms, drawing a parallel between the two halves of his life. As he put it in the company’s announcement, farming and football both demand passion, persistence and dedication, showing up every day, trusting the process and pushing forward. Pistachios, he said, are part of his roots.

The scholarship returns to Firebaugh for a second year

For the Ag Center’s readers, the community investment may be the bigger story. Allen and Wonderful Pistachios are renewing the Josh Allen Scholarship for a second year in his hometown of Firebaugh.

The program is aimed at first-generation students graduating from high school and heading into higher education. Accepted students receive help navigating the college application process along with up to $12,000 in support spread across four years of college. In its inaugural year, nearly 40 seniors, drawn from Firebaugh High School, were accepted into the program.

The scholarship isn’t a standalone effort. It’s an extension of the broader Wonderful Community Scholarship program, funded by The Wonderful Company and its co-owners, Lynda and Stewart Resnick, through their foundation.

What’s next

Wonderful Pistachios plans to debut a new national advertising campaign on Oct. 12 that leans into Allen’s identity as a California farmer, paired with fresh social media content. It builds on his first ads for the brand in 2025, a comedic series of locker-room spots under the “Don’t Hold Back Snack” banner.

For a region where agriculture is the backbone of the economy, the partnership is a rare moment of national spotlight, one that ties a hometown athlete, a homegrown crop, and a pipeline of local students all to the same bag on the shelf.
