Taylor Fresh Foods (Taylor Farms) has issued a voluntary recall of finished products containing jalapeño peppers, including salsas, guacamole and dips, over the risk of possible Salmonella contamination. The recall was announced from Salinas, California, on August 9, 2026, after Coast Citrus Distributors notified the company that it was voluntarily recalling fresh jalapeños due to potential Salmonella contamination. Why the recall happened

The FDA and CDC, together with state and local partners, are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to fresh jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors. A grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, that supplies Coast Citrus Distributors was identified as the potential source of the outbreak. In response, Taylor Fresh Foods says it is no longer sourcing products from that farmer and will fill orders from alternative suppliers.

To date, Taylor Fresh Foods says it is not aware of any reported illnesses linked to its products containing jalapeños.

Where the products were sold

The recalled products were distributed to retail distribution centers in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia, with a “Best If Used By” date up to and including August 16, 2026.

The affected items were sold under several brands and store labels, including Trader Joe’s, Freshness Guaranteed and more, across major retailers such as Target, Walmart, Kroger, Whole Foods, Hannaford, and Stop & Shop. Products range from packaged salsas, pico de gallo and guacamole to prepared items like a spicy roast beef sandwich, a rice and bean burrito, and a fiesta-style shrimp salad.

About Salmonella

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream and produce more severe illness such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.

What consumers should do
